4 Week Pottery Course (July)

Description

Perfect for total beginners or if you’ve attended my ‘Introduction to the Pottery Wheel’ class learn how to throw on the wheel, trim your pots and attach handles. Over the four week course you will gain understanding of how to centre the clay, pull up the walls of a pot and how to manipulate the clay into different shapes i.e a tall vase or a bowl shape. In a relaxed and creative environment you will make several pots during the course where your favourites will be then fired in a glaze of your choice at the end of the course. 4 pots of your choice are included in the price of the course, any extra pots you would like to be fired are an additional £5 per pot. Each session is 2 hours long. Week 1 - Learn the basics of how to throw on the potters wheel. In this first session we will get stuck in and make several pots, understanding the technique of throwing on the wheel. Week 2 - We will get back on the wheel and continue to practice throwing on the wheel, introducing new techniques like “collaring in” for a vase shape and bringing out the walls for a bowl shape. You will also get the opportunity to create some plates in this session. Week 3- Continuing our learning on the wheel, in the third week we will practice creating a series of matching pots; mastering how to replicate a shape and height of a pot. Week 4- In our final week of the course, we will be finishing off your pieces. We take the pots from the previous class in Week 3 and learn how to trim off any excess clay, add texture and design, pull handles and attach them to your pots. Your pots will then be fired in colours of your choice and ready for collection in 6-8 weeks. Total beginners are welcome or if you’ve attending my ‘Introduction to the Pottery Wheel’ class. Class Dates are : Week 1 -Monday 14th July 10am - 12pm Week 2 -Monday 21st July 10am - 12pm Week 3 -Monday 28th July 10am - 12pm Week 4 -Monday 4th August 10am - 12pm Ages 13+ (Teens 13-16 must be accompanied by an adult) All classes are based in my Pottery studio near Malpas, Cheshire. Aprons are provided however wear clothes you don't mind getting clay on (it will wash out). The full address and directions to the studio will sent in a confirmation email.
